
Let’s Swim Fiji is a grassroots swimming development program focused on inclusive and accessible programs in the Pacific Islands and is funded by DFAT. The program was launched on April 6th, 2017 and came about due to the rise in drowning cases in the region.
Since its inception the program has certified several qualified development officers around Viti Levu and empowered over 22,000 (and counting) children and adults combined, with their Learn to Swim Program as well as the Water Safety & Basic Rescue Skills Program.
With the recent spike in drowning cases there has never been such an opportune time for the importance of such a program and because of this organizations like the Fiji Sports Commission, Fiji Outrigger Canoe Association, FBC, Ministry of Health, Ministry of Youth and Sports, Ministry of Education, Suva City Council, National Schools’ Swimming, FNU Sports Science, Life Flight and The Vatuvara Foundation have partnered up with Let’s Swim Fiji to help boost their outreach.
This unique collaboration have led to the program being accessible all over Fiji; from the river banks of Rewa and Naitasiri, to the coastal shores of Nasese and Lami, to Labasa and even the blissful clear waters of Yacata village, Cakaudrove with many more outreach programs in the pipeline.
The dedication, versatility and creativity of their development officers ensures an attractive yet consistent method of delivery of course content across all workshops to provide sustainable Learn to Swim Programs, all the while sharing a passion for Water Safety and its importance to a country surrounded by water.
